Get Ready for the 2023 Auto Shanghai: A Preview of the Latest Models and Technologies from Top Brands

The 20th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, also known as Auto Shanghai 2023, is set to take place from April 18 to April 27 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. This marks the first A-class international auto show to be held in China since the country optimized its COVID-19 response. The event will feature press days on April 18-19, followed by two days reserved for professionals in the auto industry on April 20-21.[0] From April 22 to 27, the show will be open to the general public.[0]

The biennial Shanghai Auto Show will showcase the latest models and technologies from various brands, including BYD, Volkswagen, Geely Auto, and NIO. Tesla, which has a large electric vehicle factory in Shanghai, will not have a presence at the show this year, according to plans published by the event organizer.[1] This is in contrast to past years, where the company had a stage at the auto show. In 2021, a Model 3 owner climbed atop a display vehicle and protested Tesla’s handling of her complaints about malfunctioning brakes, which went viral in China.[1] After some time, Tesla offered a scarce expression of regret for their failure to promptly attend to customers’ grievances.[2]

Meanwhile, Chinese luxury EV brand NIO plans to debut its all-new ES6 electric SUV and launch the 2023 Nio ET7 at the Shanghai Auto Show.[3] BYD is also set to unveil a new electric SUV as part of the Dynasty series, which is expected to compete in the growing electric SUV market.[4] The model will feature a fully electric powertrain and is scheduled to be officially unveiled on April 18, with plans for a release in the Chinese market later in 2023.[5] Other brands, such as Changan Automobile and Geely Auto, will also showcase their latest models at the event.

Overall, the 2023 Auto Shanghai is poised to be a major event for the international auto industry, with various brands showcasing their latest models and technologies. While Tesla’s absence from the show may be notable, the event promises to be a platform for other brands to shine and showcase their innovations in the EV market.
