Girl Scout cookie season is in full swing, and this year a new flavor has made its debut: Raspberry Rally.[0] Described as a “sister cookie” to the traditional Thin Mints, this pink, raspberry-flavored treat is only available online.[1] However, with such high demand, the Girl Scouts have found it difficult to keep up with the orders. As a result, Raspberry Rallys have been selling out within hours of going on sale and being resold on sites like eBay for up to eight times its retail price.[2]
In December, Girl Scouts of the USA revealed customers purchasing the iconic cookies online might experience shortages due to complications with the supply chain of Little Brownie Bakers, one of the two bakeries responsible for producing them.[3] Additionally, the organization has urged people not to buy Girl Scout cookies on websites like eBay, as it takes away from the original mission of the cookie program and does not support the Girl Scouts’ mission and the largest girl-led entrepreneurship program in the world.[4]
The Girl Scout cookies are made commercially and are available in more than a dozen flavors. Selling cookies isn’t just about offering up sweets, it’s a chance for kids to learn business skills and raise money for troop activities.[5] It’s a valuable learning experience for the girls to practice goal setting, people skills, business ethics, and making lifelong friends.
If you want to buy Raspberry Rally cookies straight from the source, you may have to wait until next season.[6] In the meantime, there are plenty of other Girl Scout cookie flavors still available from legitimate sources online. And while it’s tempting to buy the cookies at a huge markup, it’s better to use that money to support girls by buying other varieties or by supporting the program in other ways.[7]
